Hi,
Can anyone help with this coin? Seams to be a Byzantine coin strucked in Carthage (CRT). I have read they could be overstrucked. Maybe this is. Age? Ruler? Weigth 4.65 gram. Diameter 18-21 mm.

With the CRTS (there's probably an "S") in exergue, in combination with the two Xs above the exergual line, I would imagine that the overstrike is a half follis/20 nummi of Constans II (641-668) from Carthage. However, I suppose the Constans II could be the undertype/host coin...

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't recall Byzantine coins from Carthage ever using a CRT mintmark (as opposed to CAR or KAR or something like that).

Completely wild guess: could it be CAT for Catania?

@january1may In my Byzantine conis book by Sear it says mint marks for Carthage could be CAR, KAR, KART, CT, CRT and KRT.
