F-12. This Lincoln shows heavy wear on part of the reverse. The Wheat stem on the Right side of the Reverse is barely visible. Part of the O in One is completely worn down. The L and S in Pluribus are partially worn down. The U in Unum is heavily worn. Altogether, E Pluribus Unum shows a lot of wear.
These items are not due to wear on the coin. This is due to
Grease Filled Dies and some die wear. The O in ONE is quite typical of Lincolns over many years. For some reason, this part of the die seems to hold grease and/or have the incorrect depth on the die....I forgot why....I'm getting old. LOL
The reverse wear should be mainly judged from the wheat lines and the wheat seeds as they are the reverse design high points. Also, this is an S mint issue which are well known for over-used and incorrectly spaced dies in early Lincolns. On the obverse, there appears to be separation between the cheek and jaw (the scans aren't very good). If there's separation, this moves the coin to VF, if not, then it's F.
