Hi everyone. I'm new to the game but have discovered at least 2 1982 D small date 3.11 gram pennies in my a jar I've had for 20 years. I know that these are very rare, but I'm not sure what the next best step would be...send them off to get certified or something?
First step is to post pictures on a good scale to get confirmation from others that they are actually small dates and copper planchets. That way if they aren't you will not have wasted your money on certification. If the people here agree that they are copper small dates THEN you will want to get them certified. If they are real, and certified, then you will want to place them with a major numismatic auction house for the best exposure and price.
Since the first one was discovered back in 2016 hundreds and hundreds of claims have been made in the various online forums by people saying they have found one. To date not a single one of them has been the real thing. So the chance of having ONE is pretty much zero. The chance of have TWO is astronomically less.
