My Grandma found this whilst metal detecting years and years ago. Has anyone ever seen one before or knows what it is?

It weighs 20 grams and the diameter is 38mm.

I think it says Drinks as Beverages as the end.

I believe it reads, "I promise to abstain from all intoxicating drinks and beverages". I believe it's an old AA coin. Never seen one like that before. That's neat being 11 years in the program ram myself. Cool find! Probably not as cool to you. ;-).

I think it might be a pledge token from a temperance society. Possibly mid 19th century to early 20th.

I can make out the word "bible" on the top right of the book. Can anyone make out any more of the text?

Congrats on those doing well with the program.

Regarding the medal - a very cool find but I also can't stop myself thinking in what scenario it was lost.
I keep picturing in my mind a bloke having an absolute bender and tossing his pledge token as far as he can!

That would be "drinks as beverages". This piece predates AA by about 1/2 century. This was part of a common

pledge used by organizations, primarily in the UK & Ireland. That one sentence is the Band of Hopes pledge

in it's entirety.
