Hi, I've done a ton of googling about the 1975 mint error nickel inherited from my dads coin collection but the prices range so much! How do I know if mine is at the top or lower range? It's "unidentified" to me because I have no idea what I am supposed to be looking for?! TIA

This is what is called a "mis-placed mint mark" for the year. Yours is in nice shape and should carry a nice premium. That said, I haven't seen one sell for a long time so have no idea what it's worth. This die also developed a Cud on the obverse in later stage, and one of those recently sold for just over $200.

Thanks tropical bats. It looks like my Dad paid $200 for it. I was under the impression by googling it was worth more. When I googled I found an old post on here for a bounty. Is that a different nickel? It's so hard to know what you actually have when there are a ton of factors! Thanks for taking the time to reply. This is the old post I was referring to: http://goccf.com/t/161090

There was a lot of talk about these back when the $1K bounty was put out there, but that was a one time deal by a guy who particularly wanted one in top grade. Even so, I was able to poke around a little more and found one without the Cud, in much worse condition than yours, that sold for $50. I don't think you'd get $200 for it, but it's still worth rather a lot for a nickel.
