Thank you for helping earlier today. Could you help me identify the variety of this half penny? I can't tell if there is a letter or not to the left of the light house. Thank you

Definitely no letter there. This is the standard 1862 halfpenny, dies 7 and G, Freeman 289.

The die letters, which are very rare, are much more obvious when they are present. Here is an example:

For Halfpennies the recognised book is probably Freeman's "The bronze Coinage of Great Britain" although this has not been updated for some years.
Online I find: https://halfpennyvarieties.wordpress.com/ the most up to date source of information.

@Paddy they updated The Bronze Coinage of Great Britain in 2016 Has well over 100 updates and revisions Rotographic about 10 or 12 quid ;)

You are right of course, and I do have the 2016 version here. For halfpennies I still find the website much easier to work with.
