1984 $1 Damaged Coin Or Error. Chunk Missing

Hello all,

I am extremely new to coin collecting and appreciation. I came across this $1 coin and wondering whether it has been damaged or whether it is an error. The reason I question whether it is an error is there is a 'rim' around where the chunk is missing.

Hi Rahrah ... not an error but rather PMD (Post Mint Damage). The rim has taken a hit, maybe from a mower blade, and the 'rim' around where the chunk is missing is where the metal has been pushed back.
Keep looking though!
