Introductory Note: I have posted about many different aspects of the history of US commemorative coins here in the US Commemoratives area of CCF, most with "Commems Collection" in their title to enable automatic inclusion on the "Commems Collection" list created by Bobby. In addition, however, I have also posted about the design elements found on many of the coins over in the "Post Your..." galleries area, as well as within posts here under non-coin-specific titles. I've decided to collect these multiple design discussions for each coin of the series in one place for quick access, I present...

I appreciate you taking the time to collect all of these in one thread commems - acknowledging as well the much broader and deeper investment you have made in authoring them in the first place.

Happy to do it! IMO, it's easy for posts to get "lost" when included in the "Post Your..." threads as new coins get added on a regular basis and the threads become long (sometimes VERY long!). They can also get "lost" in the US Commemorative Coins threads when not specifically identified in a post title.

At least with these indices, a collector looking to explore a particular issue from multiple angles has an access point for posts that might otherwise go unnoticed.

As my only two goals here on CCF are to help educate and learn from others, these indices seem a good use of my time - they make sense to me as a supplement to the Commems Collection index put together by Bobby!

When I read about the 1928 Hawaiian Discovery half it brings to mind that in 1928 the US Mint also issued the Oregon Trail half - and the representations of the Native American chiefs covey two different emotions:

Commems-Collection-Classic:-1928-Hawaiian-European-Discovery-Sesquicentennial,-Design-Discussion

In my interpretation, the Native American chief represented on the Oregon Trail coin is standing in a braced position with his left arm extended, hand palm forward willing the settlers to stop entering his land as viewed by the wagons behind his right elbow.

In contrast, the Hawaiian Native American chief extends a welcoming hand with the beauty of Waikiki Beach and Diamond head viewed in the background.

Quite the contract to my eye.

I agree, quite a contrast in posture. The result of 75 years of exposure to European settlers - 1775 vs 1850s?
