This nickel had what appeared to be dull spots on the finish, but on closer examination there are radial spikes extending out from the center, but not on all of the raised portions...appears to be under them.
It is not dirt, but could be damage I guess, but I have never seen the like and not much info available...closest I found is referred to as a "cold metal flow". Both the obverse and reverse are affected, but more evident on the reverse.

THoughts? Comments?

Thanks!

I think heavy die polishing as well, since it is in the fields only and not the images.

In the second pic it seems the lines affect the lower portions of the design as well as the fields.
I think "cold metal flow" helps to describe what is happening here.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Thank you all for the input! Much appreciated.
I think I will keep it just because I think it is neat/different.

Thank you Castor!
That is exactly it.

I searched the forums and online prior to posting but I guess my search terms were bad.

"Starburst" is a good term for it. The nickel in that thread exhibits exactly the same streaks as mine.

Thank you again!
