Hi all,

I recently obtained a Proof set from 2005. When entering the $1 coin into Numista I noticed that the number of S Proof minted was higher than either of the D or P. Does this mean that the D and P coins are harder to source than the S? Do the D and P turn up in circulation or only available as year sets?

Thanks

The P&D dollar coins were not issued for circulation in 2005. They were issued in the uncirculated mint sets and sold by the mint in bags & rolls. None were release to circulation, so they show up for the same reasons the proof coins do.

Thanks JBuck. So I need to keep an eye out for year sets.

Yes. That is the best way to get them. Also, there are dealers who have bought and separated the sets (or acquired bags/rolls) for individual sale. There are a couple at the local coin show who have helped me fill some holes over the years.
