Hello...can someone tell me if this is color is from chemicals or is it supposed to be brown? Thank you in advance!

that does look like chemicals were used to change the color. There are all kinds of artificial patina solutions that can be bought at your local home improvement store. I have used it in the past to 'rust' out brand new steel all-thread to give it an antique look for my outdoor furniture I make.
