The "Plain Rims" variety, is identified by its broad, lumpy obverse rim. A handsome example of this popular Washington penny. The steel-gray fields are moderately reflective, and substantial glimpses of the initial fire-red iridescence fill the legends and shield. Marks are absent save for one brief hair-thin field line near the chin. The portrait is based on the 1791 large and small eagle cents, while the reverse is patterned after the 1795 Liberty and Security token. Listed on page 82 of the 2025 Guide Book.
