(I don't think it is solder - there is no seam at the edge. But the portion on the fields does appear to have an irregular appearance to it. Collecting since 1972. nickelsearcher Bedrock of the Community United States 11074 Posts	Posted 06/05/2023 7:11 pm I'm not convinced this is a Cud - same suspicions as others have. The surfaces of a Cud are generally smooth due to the planchet metal filling the void in the die break. There might be circulation wear but I've never seen a Cud with the ragged appearance of this one. As noted, most Cuds show as a smooth raised area on one side with weakness on the opposite side, due to a loss of pressure, Here's a detail of a Cud nickel showing both.
