The finger print smudges on the reverse are not the prettiest but the obverse says MS 63 RB to me. All in all still nice looking coin.

Tell us about the luster, please - it's not evident in these pics.

I have to work on getting the luster to show.

It does have a nice luster that you would find on an MS coin, the 1944 has the same luster.

I'll say MS-63, but just a stab.

I'm a little uncomfortable with the colour....it has a bit of that salmon-y look that copper that's been dipped tends to get. Might just be the photo - curious to know whether I'm the only person thinking this.

Yes, looks dipped to me and that's why I didn't respond. All of his coins have looked the same, loss of luster-wise.

I believe the coin has had some bad storage maybe in a cupboard next to wood or damp basement drawers. I bought some large cents that were mint state that had a great luster but the toning was something to be desired. 2 of the coins have not a mark to be found on them but at the coin shows All the graders opinions were MS 62 at best. To me toning from sulfer water or acids in woods is not a grade down grade but just bad storage. There is nothing we can do to change the coin apperence other than protect it and keep it dry. The two coins I talked about earlier, in time and correct storage have lost a lot of the ugly toning.
