Thanks! I just discovered (from @lettow) that the 2 lions are modelled after "Stephen & Stitt" from the HSBC HQ in Shanghai. Apparently the "Stephen" lion is supposed to be the roaring lion while the Stitt lion is supposed to be the more relaxed, quiescent sculpture. It is an interesting read (thanks @lettow for sharing).
