What could have made this divet into Lincoln's cheek? I understand scratches, but this looks like something round and blunt would have made a very hard hit. and "squished it upward". Very technical explanation. Any ideas?

Well, here's a 2003 with the same look. May be part of the intended design. I know Lincoln had high cheek bones, but this is a little overdone.

It's just the way the obverse was designed. Could also be the fact it was a newer die being used as the details are still pretty sharp.
