I found this 1940 nickel in my usual $20 from the credit union. Lightly circulated, but worthy of note for the full steps. Where has this Jeff been tucked away for the last 84 years? It doesn't take long for the full steps to wear off.

Yeah, 5FS. Finding a 6FS out of circulation seems very unlikely, especially pre-1990.

So are certain years/MMs considered "Full Steps" with 5 steps, while others require 6?

Books like Bowers' have two categories. I believe PCGS will attribute 5FS as Full Steps. NGC will label with 5FS or 6FS specifically.
