Hello!

I decided to take a closer look at this 1883 nickel I recently found at an estate sale in MD. & I wanted to confirm if this is an error. I believe both the reverse & obverse has lamination errors, but notinghow close looking die cracks can be to lamination, I'd figured I ask yall (aka my pros)!
Also I think the nickel is in great shape & maintained a lot of detail after spending who knows how long in a box of coins, but what would yall grade it?

Any advice in guidance will truly be appreciated!

Thank yall & have a great rest of your day!

-A

Nice example of die cracks!

I see some evidence that these came from photographs of a screen. In the future, please do not post photos of screens. Use a memory card or a USB cable to transfer images.

To me, those look like die cracks. Raised, thin, precise. Laminations tend to be a bit ragged along the edge and are often accompanied by striations or discoloration lines where the metal is mixed unevenly or mixed with contaminants.

Another clue that they are die cracks is that the ones on the reverse follow the letters, which are cavities on the dies. Laminations tend to run straight(ish) because they are inclusions in the metal that is rolled, stretched, and cut into planchets before ever getting struck by the die. They don't really follow coin features or die weak spots because they exist before the coin is struck. Often laminations run right up and over big devices or straight through letters.

Yes on the die cracks. Not a bad looking "No Cents" nickel

EDIT: With the marks/nicks on the obverse I'll stay at AU55

Excellent specimen. Love the die cracks.
1883 No cents is one of my favorite coins.
As for grade, I give it an AU.

It's an attractive AU. The obverse is decent, but the reverse looks really clear of circulation marks.
