Robert Ingersoll Aitken (b.1878; d. 1949) was a talented artist/sculptor who received multiple coin, medal, monumental and architectural art commissions during his professional career. He was a member (serving in various positions) of the National Academy of Design in New York City between 1919 and 1934.

Aitken studied in California, Paris and New York, and also was an art instructor in California and New York (including at Art Students League).

He was commissioned to design three United States ("US") commemorative coins: 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition Gold Quintuple Eagle, 1921 Missouri Statehood Centennial Half Dollar and 1935-36 California-Pacific International Exposition - "San Diego" - Half Dollar

His designs for the classic commemorative coin series are amongst my favorites.

I'm also a collector of the So Called Dollars from the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition, so always enjoy seeing an image of Aitken's HK-400.

Thanks for sharing.

Here's an original enevelope for the Souvenir medal. It's not pristine, but I'm fine with its "experience."

Outstanding piece of ephemera. I enjoy its lifetime worth of 'experiences'.

I have an 'experienced' member of that Exposition in my collection as well! It is likely not a surprise to anyone that I enjoyed the challenges of finding honestly circulated members of the classic silver commemorative set.

So - extending that interest to my Panama Pacific SCD's I have a pocket piece HK-400 that someone carried for a long time.

It's uncertified but I judge to be ~F15 range. Enjoy!

Here's a link to some pretty pciture of the Exposition, and images of several of the Aitken medals in my collection: 1915 Panama-Pacific International Expositions - Medals

None of the medals are quite as "experienced" as nickelsearcher's example, but they suit me fine!

@nickelsearcher: Thanks for engaging! I'v enjoyed the discussion and sharing!
