Tangible Investments - The coin many collectors call the most beautiful British crown ever struck. William Wyon's Gothic Crown pairs a young Queen Victoria, wearing an intricately detailed crown and an embroidered gown featuring the rose, thistle, and shamrock, with legends set in medieval Gothic lettering. The design drew on the Gothic Revival that was reshaping Victorian architecture and art, and it has been prized by collectors ever since. The reverse features four crowned shields of England, Scotland, and Ireland around the Star of the Order of the Garter, with the date written only as MDCCCXLVII. Struck in limited numbers as a proof, this example carries the "UNDECIMO" edge, marking the eleventh year of Victoria's reign. Graded NGC PF61, with deep original toning and vivid blue and gold rims.
A lovely example and in better condition than mine - though mine has accumulated quite a bit of sentimental value since I bought it for £600 - at the time the most I'd ever spent on a coin. I can hardly believe the prices they are fetching now!
