Got this unattributed florin yesterday at my local LCS store from their junk silver bucket (They had several other late 1800s British silver coins too)
This morning, I looked at this coin, and it appears as if this is an impaired proof when I looked at both the pattern and circulation strikes. I saw all of the diagnostics on this coin, and they seem to match the pattern, the 8 beads on the crown, the pendant long link (though mine appears to have die polish in that area...), and I clearly see the IEB initials at the neck.

Lovely florin, but I'm afraid I'm not really an expert on the matter! Finding an impaired proof in the wild wouldn't be surprising - the set had a fairly high mintage by the standards of the time and would not have cost that much over face value - I can well imagine that when times got tough, or if a set got passed down through the family from its original purchaser, the coins may well have been spent. I doubt if any dealer in the early 20th century would have paid over face value for them. The Coincraft catalog isn't very helpful - it says that the initials JEB vary in size and position!
