Blanks are not very common, you will usually see planchets with the upturned rim. The upturned rim would be very difficult to fake but for a blank, the weight should be accurate within tolerances and the diameter will be
slightly smaller than the coin it represents. A planchet spreads when struck so it needs to be smaller than the collar which determines final diameter. As an example, I have a three piece Lincoln set, the unplated blank is 18.35mm, the unplated planchet is 18.20mm, and the plated planchet is 18.25mm vs. 19mm for a struck
Lincoln Cent. There is a variance in the unplated vs. plated because the upturning process is not precise so the diameter will vary slightly.
