I had seen a picture of a new penny (somewhere on this forum I believe), and the main device on the reverse was a shield. I don't recall the date on the coin. I was given a new penny yesterday, and didn't even look at it until today as I was looking for pennies to compare to a ' WAM' in another thread. I notice that this penny has a reverse of the capitol under construction. This is totally new to me, but I am sure that is old hat to you guys. How many new designs are on the newer (post Lincoln Memorial) reverse pennies? Are there more than just the shield and capitol types? These are all that I have seen.

There were four designs in 2009, the one you have is the 4th just released in November, somewhat of a rare find in circulation yet.

The 2010 Shield Cents are the new design for 2010 forward.

Wow, I guess that just proves how observant I really am. Thanks very much Dad, I will keep my eyes peeled from now on for those shiny little devils that I would toss out the window before.

the small mark on the far right side of the Capitol roof is part of the design

#1 Birth and Childhood in Kentucky(Log Cabin)
#2 Formative Years in Indiana(young Lincoln sitting on a partially
split log reading a book)
#3 Professional Life in Illinois(Lincoln as a lawyer and legislator standing in front of the Old Illinois State Capitol)
#4 Presidency in Washington DC(US Capitol with dome partially constructed)
