RoyalCanadianMint, perhaps you missed the question SPP put to you about the PVC content of the packaging. It is very well documented that PVC is detrimental to preservation of coinage, will the Mint consider an alternative, inert, material for its products including the exchange sets?

SteveInCanada - thank you for the shoulder tap re SPP's question. I am looking into it now! Is there an easy way to manage all posts related to the Mint? Need to figure that out so we don't miss anything.

Ask the coin forum adm. to make a new title under 'Canadian Coins and Currency Discussion Forum.' then you would have your own Q & A section.

The new 2011 circulation coins will only be found in your change or via online coin exchanges at http://www.mint.ca/legendary (i.e. $5 gets you 5 Loonies --- no shipping fees + no taxes make it an even exchange)

I haven't seen any in circulation in the GTA; I did order some through the coin exchange very soon after the announcement but I noticed that shipping is delayed... anticipation isn't all it is advertised to be :-(.

I do want to say that I really like the designs, it is this type of product that stir the juices in the young (or not so young) collectors! Were they all done by the same Montreal ad firm?

mcshilling, that's a good idea re having our own little spot for Q&A - would people figure that out...i.e. that's the best place to have your question answered? Because seriously, it won't be easy keeping track of questions that are buried in topics. I am a party of one! ;)

fenix, as for the designs of the new circ coins, yes I believe they've all come from the same ad firm and Montreal sounds right. How did you hear it was Montreal? I can verify just the same. :)Glad you like the designs...we do too. Modern and very attractive. I'm surprised you haven't seen any coins in Toronto yet? Odd!

BTW the mods are going to update our avatar to be the RCM logo so at least we differentiate a bit in the long strings of discussion. AND I am going to give them a bunch of more up to date coin jpgs so members can have more choice if they want a Canadian coin avatar...and frankly, who wouldn't? :)

littlemoney, those thumbs up are encouraging! Keep the faith and what coin avatar do you want? No promises, but will try. As for shipping and to manage expectations zonad, mint.ca is saying: Due to high demand, we expect delays in the shipment of this product until October 24.

Toonies, Loonies, quarters, dimes, nickels, cents (mag and non-mag). GTA. They're all pretty much here.

I (among others) want to know why the RCM uses plastics containing PVC for these 5-packs? Anyone who bought (exchanged) some of these 5-packs for the 2010 Navy and Roughrider loons had to remove them almost instantly, otherwise the loons dull very rapidly and acquire a thin green film with the coin's reaction to the PVC packaging. Why not issue the coins in pliofilm packaging (the same used for the uncirculated sets from 1961 to 2011)?

I have a question to add to this. PVC is okay for very short-term storage or transportation. My question is, if you take it out to preserve it, will it still be in "mint" state in 25+years, or will the PVC'd loonie be the one in MS even after the PVC has changed the coin versus a mylar flip? Anyone?

I've been finding a lot more magnetic 2011 pennies in change here in Edmonton. At first all I found was non magnetic. Does anyone know if the mint ever issued 2010 magnetic pennies?
Went shopping today and saw the person dump a whole roll of new pennies in the drawer. I got 4 of them, all magnetic. Are these quite common now?
