Guys, I want to buy a gold coin to commemorate my daughter's birth back in January and so she'll have it as a keepsake or item she can sell later when she goes to college, gets married, etc.

Some Chinese sources list 2011 as an actual birth year for "Tigers", but others list this as the year of the rabbit. Are there any refutable places out there selling a nice 2011 tiger coin of some sort? Please note my ceiling is $250.

The fallback will probably be a Chinese Panda, but if there are any other appropriately feminine/motherly coins you can suggest, I'd be happy to hear it. Thanks!

2010 is the year of the Tiger
2011 is the year of the Rabbit
See attached URL from the Australian Mint. I think the Perth Mint might also put out a Chinese year coin (but don't quote me).

Yass, you are correct. 2011 is the year of the rabbit.

Yes for example, your best bet (as these coins often go way above spot, very sought after, or it seems like to me anyway that they are), is probably the 2011 gold 1/10 of an oz rabbit which could be found on ebay for around 180....

Ah yes, A1trader has a very solid reputation, an inventory which allows them to list rather low under cutting other dealers IMO. I saw it for 205 elsewhere, but they have it listed as "buy it now" at 189, or bid on it at 179, free shipping....

Hello,

Actually the lunar calendar of the year of the Tiger ended in the last week of January 2011 of the current Gregorian calender system, and the Year of the Rabbit official is February 3rd, 2011.

So since she is born in January, she is actually born in the year of the tiger!

the mint has this one for: http://www.mint.ca/store/coin/150-g...Id=cat120004

APMEX has this 1/10 gold oz coin, although not as nice of a design IMO http://www.apmex.com/Product/54865/...eries_2.aspx

the RCM has a really lovely lunar 1 oz lunar coin (same design as the gold one), although at quite a premium at 88 dollars. I have this one for my kid as well as he was born in 2010. If you can still find them, the Australian lunar series has a year of the tiger coin. Although it is getting alot harder to find.

cheers!
