My first gold purchase.

My guess on grade is VF/XF, these are tough to grade.

This was an important serries that put the US on the gold standard.

Can I ask, why would anybody put MS wheaties in a cardboard album like that? Should they not be encapsulated or preserved somehow?

Preservation is a relatively recent phenom on coins, and costs money. Clewless Gnubees™ just figure the makers know what's best, or don't care, like those who say they clean coins (I saw that warning 50 years ago).

Whitman used to glue the backing to the codbod. Every hole had stripes of glue in direct contact with the reverse.

Thank you all for your amusing comments. biggfredd, no, it is not lacquered. That is simply my poor picture-taking. This has been one of the most difficult coins for me to photograph successfully. I'll keep working on it. I think I'll use a diffuser next time.
