Anyone seeing alot of these in your penny sorts? I know I have, and it's amazing to me the condition varieties you get while sorting.
I finally got a ryedale, and have been going through the copper box and pulling out all nice shiny coins to make sure they're not zincs. So far I've found 5-10 wheats that were red or red/brown. All from the 50s mind you, but they're absolutely beautiful to look at. I'm curious if this is a common thing or something I should feel extra special about.

Well, with having a Ryedale I assume you go through a large quantity of cents. I have gone through about $500 in cents so far and have found one "red" Wheat cent. It sounds like you are either lucky or are doing a large volume. As I have said before, it is all about volume. What seems impossible in one box of cents is inevitable in ten thousand. |

Not really , maybe $100 worth of pennies. Found around 5-8 that were red or red-brown , then maybe another 15-20 that were normal wheats. Oldest one out of the bunch was a 1927-S.

I've done 36 boxes, or $900 and I only have 1 red wheat.

Then yes I would say you are VERY lucky....post some pics....we would all love to see. It is OK to brag a bit on here when you have finds like that

I got six cents in the Coinstar return. One was a red 2006 Canadian.

You may have just hit a pile of coins that were taken from coin collections and deposited in a bank. With the economy the way it's been, this happens way more than people hear or read about.
