OK. Let me start by saying that I am not a coin collector. More of a dabbler I guess. I was going through some wheaties that I found in my parents' house when we were cleaning it out. One of interest is a 1944-S which has a tiny but very well defined 2 stamped above the date. Does anybody know what this is? This is my first post. I hope this question doesn't sound too silly. Thanks

Welcome Larry!! I think your coin has been stamped with a die. Machinists use them all the time. I have some Lincolns that are smoking cigars, some with Kennedy stamped on them, some with Mason's symbols. They are a very fun collectable, but are made by people after they are minted.

I would love to see a picture, that's really the only way to be sure.
