Looking For A 1983 Collection Of Irish Coins

shanef680 New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 07/25/2014 3:59 pm I'm unsure if this is the correct forum for this question, so please forgive me if this should be posted elsewhere. I'm looking to give my wife a collection of coins in circulation in Ireland during her birth year, 1983. I've tried doing research via google, but haven't turned up much of anything. I'm wondering if the coins in circulation were british and should just get her a british proof set? I would like either a proof set or uncirculated. Can anyone point me in the right direction? NumisRob Bedrock of the Community United Kingdom 18073 Posts	Posted 07/25/2014 4:32 pm The Irish Republic didn't issue decimal coins every year. In fact the only coin issued that year was the 50p. You can see a list of which Irish coins were issued here: http://www.irishcoinage.com/ British coins were used in Northern Ireland - the 1983 Great Britain BU set has a mintage of about 640,000 so is readily available and quite cheap (unless you get one with the rare 'New Pence' reverse 2p!) That set was issued in quite large numbers as it was the first year the £1 coin was made, and a lot of sets were distributed by food and drink retailers as special offers.
