Yeah "trading" this set to the Antique shop guy does worry me ......well first if he'll even want it.......but..... the stuff I select or he offers to "trade" for...... You're right.. looking at his selections, then writing down the info and researching it for values and then returning to make the purchase is very wise. Because if I'm standing right there after I trade and he begins to try to "sell" me certain coins ..... I won't know what's a good deal for me and what's not. Maybe though, since it's so far away from me (two hour drive) I could just bring "The Blue Book" in with me when I bring the set in and go by that ?

Dolley Madison.......hmmmmm....... Yeah Spider I just had horrible timing on that coin..... I wanted to get one of each of the others, but just wasn't fast enough ! So "this" one I was right on it the very moment it came out ! Of course my misfortune of the "price raising" and everything else just killed me, but it "is" a beautiful coin and many many decades from now, don't you think it will appreciate in value enough to keep this one ? I'm never going to sell coins to make money....just hoard. And even though this was a bad purchase with bad timing, I'm wondering if it'd be okay to keep it. It has yet to be delivered too....so..... I don't know. This will be my FIFTH GOLD COIN to add to my collection !

It is best to get the latest copy of the "Greysheet" aka CDN, ask your local coin shop dealer for a copy - or maybe someone on here can scan and send you a copy. That will truly reflect the current market value that the dealers are paying for a particular coin. The Blue Book is kinda "out of date" on some of the pricing... and I can almost guarantee you that the guy that you will deal with will never sell you his coin for the Blue Book prices (his asking prices will be close to the Red Book, which you don't want to pay for).

Good luck and let us know the progress.

Btw, I was gonna buy the Dolley Madison since there was a Silver Commemorative for her too; but the price hike shy me away from her.... Now, looking back, those guys that got the first 2 coins had quite a bit of profit.... for the Jefferson Liberty, it's still a little bit over pot price.
