A friend of mine has a 200 acre farm and in one section there was some type of battle in the 1700 period and near a small settlement, probably fighting over a piece of real estate in those days. Well, one day while he was at work two fellas show up with metal detectors and ask the wife if they could scour the site looking for some old stuff that they collect for the kiddies, after a few hours they return with what appeared to be a sack of stuff and when the wife asked to see what they found they showed here a handful of old coins that they said were going to be donated to the local historic society in her community and she would get recognition for it etc etc.. well, after 5 years she is still waiting, maybe the coins were not that great and they buried them again

sounds like the cheque's still in the mail eh.

Too bad this happens to good folk, I detect almost everyday when the weather comes around. Yet I still hear stories like this and eventually all these taking type people will kill the hobby, sad to see as it's an amazing hobby.
