Probably just a button or something... But was curious if anyone else thought it looked like an ancient coin? Lol *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Looks like a button to me, but I'm no expert

The holes have been hand punched so it is very possible it was an old coin. And of course they polished it for good measure too.
I see enough asymmetric design that does not look like a purely decorative pattern to make me think coin.
Asian perhaps ? I am completely ignorant on anything from east of Mesopotamia. But there are a few here who know about the region.

That's why I was wondering it reminded me of some of the older coins on the forum and also the holes are done rather crudely. But would have absolutely no clue since I have no knowledge of ancients or most world coins.

It's what matches a silver rupee or tanka of India thay someone has made into a button. I can't help you to narrow it down by date/ruler without the weight and diameter.

Gotcha. Yeah looking on Numista just based on the design looks to be a Bhutan ½ Rupee / Deb (Period III)(1835-1910) made of brass/copper or ½ Rupee (Deb)(1790-1840) made of silver. I will have to check the weight and diameter during lunch.

Actually it REALLY looks like a bhutan 1/2 rupee (Deb) (1790-1840) made of silver just based on the design. Will still get those stats though. Thanks for the help!

Where would be a good place to try and find a value of this coin if it is the 1/2 rupee (deb) (1790-1840)? Quick internet search doesn't really show much about this old one. It is mostly the newer silver ones.

Ok the diameter of the "coin" is 1.75cm and the weight is 2.1 grams. I guess I didn't consider the possibility that this is just a button made to look like a bhutan rupee! :P Any thoughts?

I guess the other possibility is that the button was made first, and was so impressive that they made the bhutan rupee to look like it .

It is indeed a Bhutan coin, subsequently holed to make a button.
As for value, the whole "holed to make a button" thing kind of ruins it, numismatically. So any value it retains will be purely based on silver content, I suspect.

The value for a coin collector is probably near zero, but a button-collector might be happy to own a historical button from India, which was once a coin.
