Env Damage? - Coin Community Forum

Reason is I got this over the weekend from ebay and it says "Env Damage" but it is uncirculated and no grading. I thought it was a good deal since I paid only $11.51 for a PCGS certified, but now I am not too sure if it was or not. * Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. * Report this Post to the Staff

moxking Rest in Peace United States 17900 Posts	Posted 01/03/2017 3:55 pm It does mean environmental damage, but I can't tell from the photo how severe that damage might be. If a Coin has a significant defect, such as environmental damage, or corrosion, or a bad rim ding, or cleaning, and other factors - the coin no longer receives a number grade. In this case it is marked as UNC details. Which means it can't be given a numerical assignment. It has not been circulated, thus the UNC. If you were to see - Scratch, details, extra fine - it would mean there is a significant enough scratch that the coin won't receive a numbered grade, but is in the EF (or XF) range. It is very common to see this kind of damage in modern coins. At least I know now to not submit any coin with this type of damage even if uncirculated and scratch less. Report this Post to the Staff
Ross Son Valued Member United States 173 Posts	Posted 01/04/2017 10:11 am I couldn't find any information on the value or how this affects the value, but obviously it is worth less than of the same variety without the damage. I guess it is just a cheap option for those that want this variety but don't want to spend loads of money. I think without damage this coin would be at least $100 (assuming MS-65) all the way to $350 for MS-70. But I do wonder how much one would pay for it? Report this Post to the Staff

It's still valued as a DDO, just a little less because of condition. Each variety, error, and date collectable coin is worth more the better condition it's in.
