Napoleon 5 Francs Weight? - Coin Community Forum

NumisRob Bedrock of the Community United Kingdom 18083 Posts	Posted 04/30/2020 4:17 pm Hello and According to Numista, and the French Gadoury catalog, the weight of this coin should be 25g when new, so I would imagine that 24.65 for your coin is about right. The weight of the original coins may have varied a little, but not by much: Napoleon was determined to get the country and its currency back in order after the chaos of the Revolution and the Revolutionary Wars, and I'm sure minting was strictly controlled and supervised. erafjel Pillar of the Community Sweden 2124 Posts	Posted 04/30/2020 5:12 pm The manufacturing tolerance for 5 francs Napoleons was 0.3 %, which for 25 g yields 0.075 g or down to 24.925 g. Another 0.275 g due to wear is not unreasonable, the coin looks like it has been around for a while. The engraving and details look like they should, I see no reason to doubt that it is genuine.
