1994 British Penny Error

British pennies struck since 1992 are made of steel with a thin copper plating. In certain environmental conditions the copper coating can blister and bubble - I've sometimes found pennies lying on the sidewalk like that. But a photo is essential!

I'm afraid that even if you do have an error penny, it's unlikely to be worth a great deal. British collectors are not into varieties and errors in the way that US collectors are. Many UK collectors put aside coins showing Machine Doubling, grease-filled dies, rim clips and laminations but mainly as unusual curiosities rather than in the hope of ever getting serious money from them.
