Indeed, the war helped kill them off, as the resources needed to make them were needed for the war effort. A "one from each state" collection would comprise of only 12 tokens: Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah, Washington; Ohio issued paper tokens, and privately-issued tax scrip is also known from several states. Some states issued several denominations, and some issued several different series. Tokens in reasonable condition normally go for just a few dollars at most, though there are some scarce varieties and types which token collectors will pay hundreds of dollars for. Google "tax token" (exact phrase) for lots of informative sites, including the American Tax Token Society. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis Report this Post to the Staff
