Commems Collection Medals: 1984 Los Angeles-Sarajevo Olympics Friendship Medal & Pin Set

I recently discussed the 1984 Los Angeles-Sarjevo Olympics Friendship medal (see the discussion here: 1984 Los Angeles-Sarajevo Olympics Friendship Medal. This time out, I present a Medal and Pin Set that was also a "Thank You" gift to Olympic supporters.

The Medal and Pin Set was an appreciation gift sent by the Committees to those purchasing tickets prior to August 15, 1983.

The Medal and Pin Set shown was an official commemorative piece issued jointly by the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics Organizing Committee and the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics Organizing Committee. As with the larger medal previously discussed, the Set was designed to celebrate international unity and "spirit of peace" via the Olympic Games. The included Pin, is unique to the Set, it was promoted as a special collectible among fans of Olympic pin collecting.

The designs of the Set's medal are the same as the large medal discussed in my other thread - it's just a smaller version.

The obverse of the medal depicts a dove (an international symbol of peace) holding an olive branch (another symbol of peace) in its beak, approaching the Olympic flame above the Olympic Rings logo. Below the rings is "1984" - the year of the Games - along with inscription of the two 1984 Olympics sites: Sarajevo and Los Angeles.

The medal's reverse features the logos of the two Organizing Committees (Los Angeles at the top, Sarajevo below), with bi-lingual inscriptions encircling the logos near the rim that identify each Olympiad.

The medal shown is ~3/4" (~19 mm) in diameter and weighs ~0.15 ounces (~4.25 grams). The rectangular Lapel Pin is 1/2" in width (~13 mm) and 3/8" (~9.5 mm) in height.

The Pin presents only the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee logo.

The Set was enclosed in a gray cardboard box, with the Los Angeles Olympic Games Organizing Committee logo on its lid. Each component of the Set was inserted/attached in/to a separate cardboard holder (as shown below).

Note: A complete Set includes both the Medal and Lapel Pin - if only one piece is included, the Set is incomplete.
