From what I can ascertain, I believe it is collecting world coins? That about right?

Coin forum slang for "foreign". The term derives from the observation that the stereotypical American coin collector focuses only on American coins and knows more about the darkside of the Moon than they know about foreign coins. Coins that you're likely to find in change (like Canadian coins in the US) are sometimes called "greyside" - not quite as "dark".
Got that from the glossary.

That is pretty much it. Anything that is foreign to you is dark side. Anything that is close to you is gray side (like Canada is to the US).

That's when Darth Vader squeezes your throat and tells you to "Use the Florin, Luke."

Use the Florin, Luke is pretty good, though I might go with Forint for an even closer rendition.

well if you're a roll hunter it only makes sense that you're sifting through your own country's material.

Knowing the darkside helps when looking through loose lots at the dealer. Pulled a 1944 2 Piastres from Egypt for $0.20 :)
