Help With Some 1976 Montreal Olympic Inherited Coins? :)

kmhudsob New Member Australia 1 Posts	Posted 08/20/2011 02:14 am Hi I've inherited some coins from my grandfather and I'm curious about what I'm sitting on here. There are 2 silver Montreal Olympic ten dollar coins in unopened plastic cases. 1976 With what looks to be a leaf on the front and very shiny. I also have a 1980 queen mother coin in plastic pouch and lady Diana and Prince of whales 1981 coin. Unlike the Canadian ones these have the finish of a regular coin. Is there anything people can tell me about them Value etc. As they simply have just been sitting in a cupboard for years! The folks over in the Canadian subforum can probably tell you more about the Montreal Olympics coins, but as far as I'm aware, apart from a few "error" pieces, there is very little collector demand for them. They are solid sterling silver, so they're at least worth their bullion value (Au$60 or so at current silver prices) but perhaps not worth too much more than that. We'll need more information on the Queen Mum and Royal Wedding coins (country, size, description, etc) to identify them properly. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis Report this Post to the Staff

The queen mum has ribbons and lions on it with dots around the edge as does the Royal couple which has the dual portrait. Report this Post to the Staff

There was a short period of time when silver dropped below face value. Merchants and banks wouldn't even take them. Report this Post to the Staff
