Salomon Brothers wasn't too succesful in the coin market. As for your changing standards- this is a good point- but you have to really sink your teeth into the psychology of collectors of the period. MS-65 by today's standards was seen as a rare collecting grade... most were satisfied with coins pulled from circulation or if uncirculated- with coins in the MS-63 range.

As for what I'm trying to "prove" with this list- nothing really, it's a throw away table I've built for my book. if you think it's neat- that's fine. Point of it is to show that classic commemoratives are cheaper now than they were thirty, forty years ago.
Rest in Peace

To be flat-out frank, commems, either the old halves or the modern ones, have never had wide popularity, with the exception of a few like the Columbian Expo and Stoned Mtn. For decades, they have been subject to promotion and speculative pushes instead of true collector markets.
