The details are clearer in hand, but then, so are all the planchet laminations. The cinquefoil after FUGIO is perfectly sharp, even though it's right in the middle of a big lamination, like a daisy growing out of a rockslide. Illustrates how the planchet defects are as original to the coin as the devices.

philadelphian,

Very nice coin & good history about it via your post. We don't see such coins and knowledge post every day on CCF.

Regarding the the scale to weight your coins: Just get a "grams scale" that can go to 0.01 or 0.001g, you can have such scale w/ 100g capacity for about $20 or so on Ebay/Amazon or try to get one that will go to 1000g and may cost $40 or so... these are digital scale and should have mode for ozt, oz, g, dwt, etc. Keep in mind that these are Chinese made and their precision is not perfect but good enough for hobbyists like us. The scale usually come with a little tray & 100g steel calibrator weight. I currently have two of them and both were bought for about $20 or so.... with some patient and search around, you should be able to get one. Good luck.

And did you see my more recent post, where I compare this Fugio to its paper predecessor?
