(Many) Postal employees think the services they are contracted to provide are a joke. Private delivery is much more secure. Check the coverage for non-delivery, some will reimburse you a dollar for a lost dollar......

I had an Austria 2008 1½ Euro Philharmonic 1oz. coin go missing on me, as well. No happy ending on my part. I believe I was out about $18, so no huge monetary loss. Just an irritant. It, too, had delivery confirmation. There was little doubt that the postman delivered it to the wrong address. No apology, though.

But... I recently won two 100 gram silver bars and only one came in the package. When I asked the seller, he claimed he sent both bars and the package came with Delivery Confirmation. I never did receive the extra bar, sadly.

I'm lucky I live in a small town and am on first name basis with the mail lady. We used to get mail for the neighbors when we first moved in, but they ended up sacking that carrier and I made sure to make friends with this one as soon as I could.

That's actually a wise idea. A box of chocolates once a year for the mail carrier could potentially stave off a future disaster.

My brother is a rural carrier and I have everything shipped to his address. Never had a problem in the 7+ years I've done this...
