Compare Steve's Claudius to this one for $548--I'd pick his any day.  The portrait is better and the surfaces on his coin are more natural looking.  |

Many say "nice coins", "very nice coins", "nice pick-ups" and the like but only Steve, the author of the thread, says ".... I am absolutely in love with my new coins!". And that, friends, makes all the difference!. It gives you the better eye to see with; it makes you an afficionado, rather than one of those who stumble into the world of coins looking for stuff to re-sell on E-bay (for example). Well done, sir!

oxos => you're correct ... and so would "my" wife, if she knew what I just figured-out! On February 26, 2012 (a mere "35" days ago), I noticed an ancient coin being posted on one of the CCF threads ... for some reason this particular ancient coin seemed to flip a switch in my head!? ... I asked about the coin and was given a brief explanation regarding "ancients" Well, I immediately went on-line and bid on half a dozen ancients ... when the coins arrived at my house, I was even more anxious to collect ancient coins ... However => the name of this thread that I started is "Addiction?" ... sadly, this is not really a joke (*sigh*) Since February 26th, 2012 (a mere "35" days ago), I have managed to hunt, quasi-research (with DVC's help) and then purchase "30" ancient coins and "8" books associated with ancient coins ... yup, in a mere '35" days I have managed to spend $7,000 on these purchases! (*wow*) quick math => $7000 / 35 days = $200/day on ancients!=> so, I think that good ol' Claudius is gonna be my last coin purchase until after the summer (since my wife is asking me to build a deck, side the house and go on our annual vacation back to Victoria) So, I'm 100% thrilled with my purchases, but I "really" have to put the brakes on this coin-collecting hobby ... at least until I regroup and shake the obvious "addiction" I have going at the moment! => wish me luck! Suggestion: Read the books before buying more. You can always catch up. At $200 a day a fifty year collecting life works out to a bit under $15 million. I've only been at this since 1963 but that includes three days when I spent over $1000 and several years when I did not buy a single coin. I'll call that 'normal'. Keep the interest and avoid selling things you may want later.

Ummmmmm, yah maybe? ... mmmm, but I didn't spend anything on ancients in "January" ... ummm, right? ... so, it's kinda like I only spent $3500/month for the last "two" months ... ummm, right? By the way => I am merely practicing my "wife-speak" Oh, and thanks dougsmit => for the record => I don't believe in "selling my coins" ... that's a bit like giving away your puppies! |

 ... ummm, I just went on-line and looked at coins ... I did "not" buy this super-cool coin with the countermark on it ... but this is how I am currently feeling  |
