If the abandon the penny, I think they should bring back the 2 cent piece...

1. I would be cool
2. would only mean rounding of 1-2 cents
3. After almost a 140 year hiatus it would be cool to see it again
4. When people started saying we should phase it out we could go to the 3 cent piece, though I sadly doubt they will make one out of silver
5. My thoughts are worth at least 2 cents in this modern inflated age anyways.
6. It would be easier to throw in your Two Cents, if it only took one coin.

1.Most kids like them, collect them, play with them.

And we all know that if there are no cents kinds will refuse to like, collect or play with nickels.

2. One of the most commonly used coins for wishing wells.

Without cents the most commonly used coin will be nickels, most likely resulting in an increase in income for the charities.

3. Many Zoos and Museums have machines that turn them into trinkets for kids.

Of course even though they aren't in circulation the sheer number available would allow the zoos and museums to supply cents for the machines (at say three for a nickel?) and get a little more profit.

4.Great to use for a tip with a waitress that gives you poor service.

I have no argument on that one, but I've never had service THAT bad.

5. Banks need them to give you that real low rate on your savings accounts.

This is true, try keeping more than a dollar in savings.

6. Gives many people with little to do to have something to complain about.

Believe me they will have no problem finding something else.

7. Coin collecting companies that make Albums and Folders have to much invested in them to change.

8. To many songs that use the word Penny would have to be abandoned.

Why?

9. Most people in the USA are just to hard to make changes anyway so why bother. Remember the Metric System we were all going to be using in a few years?

Well maybe if we stop the cent and show them that is really IS possible to actually change how we do something, maybe we can finally get that switch to the metric system accomplished. Especially since it may have to be forced on them the same way. Once we prove to them the world doesn't end from dropping the cent, maybe adopting the metric system won't end it either.

This will not work for the same reason why both the one cent and five cent coins need to be discontinued.

justcarl: a shiny penny on a check here denotes GOOD service not bad service... but that could have something to do with geography... Reason being that it lets the manager see it from a distance...

Anyways, I say give Lincoln back his hat! Why is he hatless? period!

As previously noted, not on the check but on the tip. Yes that is a well practiced idea in many places but with the massive influx of people from Mexico and many doing waitressing, kind of a forgotten item.

UNFORTUNATELY I have. In one place it took about 10 minutes to get waited on and only one other table of people in the place. Possibly why only one other table of people.
Not even worth the Penny tip.
