Seems to be a lot of conflicting opinions about the grades on these two, perhaps you should send them to PCGS to verify their grades.

Quote: OK so given that these are sold and graded by the author of the Australian grading standard and trout has stated that they are over-graded I'd love to hear what he's got to say about the quality of Australian grading or the quality of his own grading from images?
If you look at the stickers for the grade you will notice that the "M" is in a different handwriting style. I responded to a request about the grade of a couple of coins and I gave my honest opinion, I really do not give a hoot who graded these coins in the first place, I simply provided my opinion to the poster. I think that Australian collectors are quite an astute bunch and are very good at making their own decisions about a coins grade/worth and most of us will take every bit of information in, Then make our own informed decision about any particular coin. As to your comments in this thread addressed to me personally . I find them petulant, self effacing, insulting and just plain arrogant. I welcome these sort of comments because at the end of the day they tend to blow up in the shooters face. All is good

Quote: I'd love to hear what he's got to say about the quality of Australian grading Of the reliable and trusted sellers that I deal with in Australia I would say that the grading is outstanding and often under graded Quote: or the quality of his own grading from images?
That is subjective and I do the best I can. A picture is worth a thousand words but the coin in hand is worth a million words in my honest opinion. I can only go from what I see in an image and make a call on that image

Mark I think Trout's trying to illustrate the subjectivity of grading, he doesn't have to agree with Klaus' grading on these coins and that's the idea behind raw coin grading. It's no different from PCGS concluding different grades from NGC. As long as Trout knows what he buys and Klaus knows what he sells - they can negotiate fair deals. The problem is when either the buyer or the seller doesn't yet know how to grade. He may take a dealer's grade as fact rather than the subjective opinion it is, one just has to look at the prices realised for overgraded coins on ebay to see why this is a problem. Have a read here: http://www.pcgs.com/thepcgsstory.htmlIt illustrates the problems faced by the US market in the 80s and how third party grading solved them.

Given that trout recently dug up a random ebay seller to illustrate a point about the difference in grading between our country and the USA I was sure he would have a useful opinion on the grading of some coins by Australia's pre-eminent coin grader. Well he certainly had an opinion.

Walter I think it's plainly obvious what trout is trying to say on these forums. I've got no argument with you or your grading. His on the other hand, is a completely different matter.

Why no problem? too submissive, weak or no real opinion of your own and have to rely on others. cmon mate say what you mean and mean what you say. If you have anything worthwhile to say to me just do it, I have thick skin and I am soo over this BS. This thread was all about 2 florins how did it become a way too discredit me \ build your flagging ego

I don't agree with his grading either but he is entitled to his opinion, just because he doesn't agree with Klaus' grading doesn't mean his grading is wrong, it just means he doesn't grade to the same standards as Klaus. Every raw coin collector has their own standard, it's the nature of the raw coin market.

I bet poor old Jaseee is thinking to themselves geez all I wanted was to show off my nice coins& get a few opinions & look whats happened,if I were a new collector to a forum & a thread I started ended up like this i'd think twice about coming back, come on guys we all know each of your opinions on raw/slabbed coins so how about everybody just chill & get back to Jaseee's question.
Jaseee,In my opinion the scans do not do your coins justice so it's very hard to give a definite grade on these coins from those scans, my first thought when I viewed your scans was that the coins are both UNC but really can't tell for sure sorry.

too right, the very reason I rarely post. and I never said nothing about not checking coins with magnification, just that grading should be done by eye, otherwise where does it end up? 5000X magnification to determine a grade? dont bother responding to me I wont read it.
