It is official. We are lighting this rocket! Ok so for setting up this contest I will use the original GTP rules found here: https://goccf.com/t/126083&whichpage=1 as a model, but I want to change a few things: - The same point system will be included, but members who submit coins for the contest will get 10 points, equivalent to getting runner-up in a round - Coin's full price (including shipping) will be the correct answer (but won't include any other fees) - Since I don't expect much participation from members from other parts of CCF, and since there are somewhat few of us here in the ancients forum, a minimum of 4 participants per round is required and each round will last a minimum of 1 day - Winner of the previous season organizes the next season (if there is enough interest for future seasons, that is; I want to see how popular the first one will be) - Not really a change, but a reminder. The coin provided has to have been bought (paid at least a penny for it) All these sound good? Any more changes that should be added? Now, onto some issues that I would like some input on. For starters, what should the contest be called? How many rounds should each season have? Can the organizer submit a coin? And I was thinking the contest should be limited to anything from any culture from the beginning of coin minting until the end of Roman emperor Zeno's reign (491 AD), and including Byzantine coins after 491 AD. You all ok with that?

I dunno. I suppose we can give it a try, but I think the participation will be fairly small considering the population on this the Dark Side of CCF. I'm really not convinced this will work.
One note. Where do you end the Byzantine era?

I end it at 1453, with the fall of the empire. And yeah, I understand what you mean, which is why I will organize this one season and see how it turns out.

I'm no expert in the ancient realm, but I'd gladly participate

Great! Glad to see this is stirring interest outside the Ancients forum. If this does fail, then I hope it at least promotes interest in ancients to non-ancient collectors.

Quote: God or Bad? More competition for the coins we want. But just imagine how excited they will be when they have their first ancient in their hands, and how we'll have helped open up a new world of collecting to them! Wouldn't that give you a warm and fuzzy feeling inside, jw?

Even if it dies-out after one season, or even after the first round, then at least we will all have had a few kicks at the cat ... Sadly, most of my/our coins have already been discussed and I may have even disclosed what I paid for a few of them ... and I know that there are a few others who talk about their coin's prices, so that may be the hardest part: => "finding one of my coins that hasn't already been disected, critiqued, criticised, ridiculed and/or shunned for being fake, or for being highly overpriced" ... => man, just like I said before => "I am already mad at this game!!" ... but I'll play!!

Jerry, I would say I'm in the same boat, but my boat is a dinghy. Everyone knows they can say $2 bucks and be close to what I paid.

I wanna play...I have a few coins I haven't posted, that I think would be difficult to price.

Thanks for your interest guys Since there are at least around 10 or so of us that frequent the ancients forum, the number of rounds will be 10 as in the original GTP. You may email me your coins for the contest starting now. You must have the coin already in your possession and the pics can be your own or seller's. Price of course needs to be included. Not sure if I will post the date of purchase as well, but send them to me (if you happen to remember when you bought them) anyway just in case.
