This just in - GB Milled sixpence from 1562 - an upgrade for me. Interesting history around these: GB didn't finally go over to milled coinage for another hundred years. This foray into early milling was brought about by a Frenchman - Eloy Mestrelle - employed at The Royal Mint for a short while. It did not end well with him eventually imprisoned in the Tower and executed. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eloy_Mestrelle for more detail.

Beautiful coin, PaddyB! Quote: imprisoned in the Tower and executed A sad ending to such an industrious fellow. Evidently there is much not included on the Wiki page.

Very Nice Coins guys. Love the sixpence paddy. Ok Shhhh not a word to anyone I have just been on a raid to foreign shores and quite frankly I am gob smacked. PCGS MS63 1946 Brass Threepence One of the 2 key dates for the series along with the 1949. At auctions these readily make £350-£600 in the UK and for some unknown reason totally ignored by other countries. And a 1959 Florin 2 shillings Which are really tough to get in top grades NGC MS64 Opening bid secured both so I am chuffed to bits
