Basing that on seeing a dealer make a fake bar ring like solid silver and at the same time not being able to get a ping out of a pure silver RCM 100oz.

Even if I saw that myself I wouldn't necessarily believe it... certaintly not without:
A) solid confirmation that the 'pingless' silver bar was in fact all pure 100% silver
B) detailed information on exactly how the fake bar wasn't genuine (lead filled, less pure alloy, etc.).

Still, I think we agree that it's always a good idea to make sure any bullion you buy is as advertised. What method of testing silver for authenticity do you consider the most reliable?

I assume we are looking for the quick and dirty as oppose to the absolutely most reliable. If the latter, drill holes + acid test. For doing a quick assessment I use density + visual. If the bar questioned is the exact dimension as a real one, it should weigh the same.

Correct assumption, and I agree those are reliable methods. I'm considering getting an ultrasound unit.

So the bar that was in question here earlier....I went back to see if he still had it and he did and I was mistaken it was one that was identical to pobox picture...with serial number 012312...got it for 320$...from what people are saying this seems to be a really good deal...any idea what they go for on average

You can bank on getting 480-525 at today's price.....and if you are little bit patient, probably get around 550-575. Personally I want to say $320 and buy it from you.... Cant do that though...too honest. I've been wanting a 10oz RCM bar for a long time now because I like them and am patriotic...almost wish you would trade me for it. I would send you a PM but your e-mail through CCF is turned off. You mentioned he had more than 1.
