gold has now broken past 1162.90 and as we discussed here,, low prices would be here and we have now two days of gold pushing lower. The December 1st overnight lows also now come into play. I would expect a bounce in gold as it is now getting stretched to the down side.

Silver also continues lower and broke 15.51 and again, no surprise, lower prices showed up.

from a trading standpoint, getting involved to sell short would be a waste and high risk as the higher risk is in a counter trend move. That does not mean however that we must expect silver and gold to bounce immediately, the market can push these things in either direction for as much as it want too.

@BluegrassRiver

sorry I dont know personally of a guide where this is all compiled at, I believe theres some sites tho that do explain or have a glossary of terms such as LOD, HOD, and so on. Some of these are technical in nature.

you might want to try stockcharts.com tho, I believe they have basic tutorials on chart patterns of various types and they do have a glossary with common used terms. If you are looking for some good books on trading I can certainly suggest two that are passed on from trader to trader and are universal staples of trading.

Good questions! The reason I do not talk about the volume is that in this specific chart, the chart for gold and silver is for EOD spot prices only. therefore it does not have volume and the 50 day average on the volume in turn is meaningless on these two specific charts, XGLD and XSLV, which are again EOD or End Of Day spot price charts.

That said, the 50 day moving average is a default I use on my charts and it would normally would show the fluctuations if say we were looking at a stock, or currency. Why the 50Day? It is common knowledge and widely accepted that the vast majority of institutions consider the 50 day to be an important level where they often buy into.

I would note however that moving averages are NOT concrete lines, they are not absolutes. Moving averages are more of reference points and thats about it. Why do we say that? As always, at the end of the day, price dictates where an asset settles at or turns, not moving averages.

after the price action today, one must consider that yearly lows being broken are a high probability. today, gold came within 16 dollars of its 52 low. A break of the yearly lows will bring without a doubt fresh yearly lows for gold.

If that happens, it will be interesting to see if silver follows this same path, coming into yearly lows and then breaking them.

If this continues, I see very good opportunities to sell silver and gold short. However, as of current, there isn't a proper entry as both silver and gold are very stretched right now to the downside. There are only two scenarios... a continued steady grind down OR a bounce happens. A bounce does not in itself say that gold and silver are down going down.

Seeing that we are coming into the areas from the December 1st overnight futures lows already, the probabilities increase for lower prices.

If you are shopping and nibbling on gold and silver coins, I think, and this is only my opinion and I often am wrong as I have no sure crystal ball, but I think you wait for better prices.

The coming days and weeks are going to be interesting.

should be an interesting week as we have gold and silver breaking key levels and weak, yet they are doing it in a manner where they are being stretched on the downside which increases the chance for a bounce... which depending on how much it bounces, could still set up silver and gold for more weakness in terms of price.

lets get right into the price action, as it is the only thing we know to be true and can only trust. Nothing matters to the markets except price action, as it acts and moves before any sort of news. Without paying attention to price first you will be at risk of not really knowing whats going and therefore we always follow price first.

First up is gold

What-Happens-To-Gold-And-Silver-Next?-Look-Out-Below?

Last we talked about gold we saw we got a resolution and that was a break lower. From there we saw gold break down lower, in fact a total of 8 days went by before we saw a bounce. From here what do we see, what is price action saying?

If we look at the chart we can see we see several things. First take a look at the yellow arrow on the far right. There is the leg lower on 3/6 which was a big day down. That was followed up by two more days lower. At this stage, those who are selling short are already in the trade from higher levels, those who choose to enter now risk getting squeezed or having to cover there positions as there isn't a proper low risk entry. That is where we see a bounce for two days.

this is the thing: does this hold? There are several negative factors here, one being that gold cannot close at the high of the day (HOD) on each of these days, and instead closes on the low of the day (LOD). Typically, this type of price action gives us further clues as to how weak or strong it is.. in this case the bounce is very weak and anemic as we see gold closed on the LOD.

YET... this does not mean that lower prices are guaranteed immediately and that one goes in charging with a mind set that prices are going lower and to sell it here. What is missing is confirmation for lower prices and then confirmation.

So, the key price level to watch this week is a break of 1146.49. As a trader I will be looking to see if that prices breaks to sell a line short. In a typical set up, this price will break, lower prices ensue and then more selling pressure should see a gradual push to the yearly lows, 1130.40, which in turn, when they are broken will bring in fresh, new yearly lows in gold. Another possibility on tap is that 1146.49 is broken followed by counter trend move.

So keep an open mind as anything is possible. However, seeing we are now probing and inside those December 1st overnight lows, lower prices are a high probability. Again, be patient and pay attention to the price action. Key number to watch this week will be if 1146.50 holds.

Silver
What-Happens-To-Gold-And-Silver-Next?-Look-Out-Below?

Surprise Surprise! Silver also managed to follow the same price action as gold. Last week we saw resolution, a break lower. That was followed by more selling in silver. Several days of selling brought us a bounce, followed by some minor selling. Pretty much the same price action as in gold. Again no surprise tho, as this is very common and typical price action. Key number to watch for this week is 15.26. does this hold or not? Allow the market to decide that but if 15.26 breaks, lower prices are on tap in silver. Simple.

One interesting nugget is that on Friday, despite all this selling in silver, on Friday, it did not make a lower low. In other words, it did not break the previous day low despite all the selling. Nevertheless, the situation in the present is that silver is also inside that December 1st overnight futures low. The probabilities are high that more selling gets silver also into yearly lows.

Just as with gold, a break of last weeks lows gets silver closer to its yearly lows of 14.15. A break of 14.15 will bring fresh yearly lows. To repeat, keep an eye on silver and see if 15.26 is broken as thats the key number this week.

So we have the two price points to watch in gold and silver. Both PMs are in my opinion sitting on key levels. The probabilities are very high for lower prices ahead. Can a bounce happen from here? Sure. The question tho is do they hold? It is hard to imagine that they do being so close to yearly lows and that is why it is key to listen to what the market communicates to us via the price action.

As a trader, a break of those levels are a typical sign of taking a position to sell lines short as the confirmation is present. Does this mean it happens 100%? No, if you notice, trading is a game based on embracing uncertainty and putting as much of the probabilities as you can on your side... and even then, those do not guarantee a sure 100% conclusion.

In any case, we have now the keys numbers to watch these week, now all we have to do is be patient and watch the market!

Gold has broken Friday LOD... Silver coming close as well...

breaks on the lower end would open up the probabilities for more selling this week in gold and silver

It broke below $15.50. Doesn't that mean much lower prices?

Gold and silver continue to break lower but its a slow choppy breakdown.

Notice we got a break of 1146 area today in gold and just settled off of it. Silver has yet to break below 15.26.

It has been a choppy, slow breakdown for both metals. Very hard to press down on selling short for the past 2 weeks for any trader as both metals are stretched to the downside.

Does this mean anything, if anything, this slow breakdown, that brings so much chop to the downside? I have no clue but I gotta say, its certainly not worth it with the slow choppy breakdown.

My initial observation of the price action is that areas of support are holding gold and silver up for the time being. While they have broken levels, they dont stay below them.

In other words, when an area of price that is important breaks, it should show follow through or have continuation. As of late, an area of price breaks, followed by a short term bounce or off the lows, and in this case, the move down has no follow through.

Its still to early to say but typically, the longer it takes for a breakdown to occur, the less chance it has of actually happening. Perhaps another counter trend move is in the works or perhaps the market is awaiting more information before deciding its next move. The only thing I can say for sure right now in view of the 2 weeks of trade in silver and gold is that despite the downward pressure, a big follow through day or continuation is lacking.

This does not mean it doesn't happen, but at the moment, there has been a lot of hesitation in the price to drop rock hard at these key levels in price.

The week is still early and therefore I expect more clues to surface from price action as to what happens. I am sure we will get resolution soon enough.

not surprised by this little surge here, as I had said last night there had been very little in the way of follow through to gold and silver as key price points here hit to the downside.

So two days in a row gold and silver bounce, each day they made higher highs and higher lows.

Is this it? Are they out of the woods? Have no clue.

A bounce was expected as they were very stretched to the downside so it was obvious at one point they would bounce.

Question is- does signal the start of a reversal? Or is this just a minor bounce before gold and silver start to break down again?

There is a lot of overhead supply to keep gold and silver down. IF this move fails then here are the numbers to watch again-

Silver- a break of 15.26 positions you to sell
Gold- a break of 1141.60 you sell

Right now tho, absolutely no reason to buy gold or silver and selling them, well you would want confirmation before before selling them short.

Its a pretty ugly, boring, choppy market for gold and silver. However, markets MOST of the time are very choppy and boring, contrary to what you may think.

The price action with silver seems to be very different than in the past 2 years.

It seems to be staying at very low, lows for longer with a lot of sideways movements keeping silver in the lower area of price action.

Anything can happen but the possibility of silver breaking lower looks strong still. If silver moves upwards it looks like it will be very slowly from this position.

I am enjoying looking at the silvers chart.
