Quote: I love the "dramatic technicals" - I get it. But I stack because it's fun...look out below! lol. That's one reason to stack. Personally, the price doesn't really mean a lot to me. You see, I easily spend over $5,000 per year on home, auto and health insurance, and never make a claim. So, I spend a little more buying insurance against a failing fiat currency, and end up also having a bit of shiny to hold in my hand.

The money that ends up in the stack is what the insurance companies, the banks and the government didn't get. Compared to other stacks of stuff it's much more compact and it is easily liquidated.
I get a lot more satisfaction buying bullion and numismatics from the guy in the shop than I do writing checks to the US Treasury. Heck, I get more satisfaction paying the garbage bill than paying the IRS. More value received for the service rendered.

@domain555
yup, sure looks like gold and silver want to touch those yearly lows again.... and then as I have discussed,, another bounce again wouldnt surprise me either...
in any case, the trend remains firmly down for gold and silver.
All these commodities look stuck in their downtrends firmly, from energy, to metals, to softs etc. The only ones that are looking good are cocoa followed by cotton, but cotton still needs a lot of work.
The USD looks like a really good place to park money this year going forward....until the trend changes...

Hi, I just came through an interesting post regarding what happens to gold and silver when we actually consider for trading. As some one mentioned cash is king and I totally agree that cash is king because the prices of gold in 2016 could be skyrocketing and this would have a huge impact on the market and that will create a huge impact on the economy. *** Edited by Staff - Please review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. ***

The only "thought" I have going into this week is... as a trader,,, what happens now that the "news" has happened and hit the tape... the Fed has raised rates and is going to raise rates.
So seeing gold and silver have been in a downtrend for years now and rates are rising, does this mean it is now priced in going forward? Does the market now finally accept this? How does it impact gold and silver?
I have no idea but I am interested in seeing how it all plays out.

I don't think we'll get a real sense of direction until the new year, the traders will continue to digest the Fed move throughout the holidays.

I think its best to put off any purchases in size. To some people, a monster box of silver is huge. Others it might be a roll. Some 5 coins.
I think even 5 coins of silver or one at a time of say even a quarter oz of gold is tooooo much to buy right now.

Yeah, the day to buy was definitely 12/18. Those that didn't buy ON THAT DAY are morons who missed the boat.
Sheesh. I bought gold and silver on 12/15. I am a moron for not waiting 3 days.
But on 12/15 I was in the shop with the cash. I am a poor market timer. I buy when I can afford to buy.
My next buying opportunity is quite literally on the next phase of the moon, the third week of January. I buy bullion when tides are low because those dates correspond with my visits to the shop.

Trying to pick a spot when to buy in a downtrend is really tough because no matter where you buy, you will always keep going lower.
I think again, about all the folks who have thought 25 dollars an oz was a deal in silver or when gold hit 1500, that that area was a steal from 1,900... and so on.
I have never made money trying to buy declining assets and I certainly have never made money by buying declining assets and turning them into an investment.
I would not like to be in the position of buying PMs on a regular basis and watching them constantly slide lower on me.

I have been stacking and unstacking for so long that I really don't care about making money in bullion. I stacked eagles at $200, and within a year unstacked them at $200. If I had waited 20 years there were times when they touched $1000, but by then they were long gone and I didn't even notice what I could have made.
In liquidating my dad's estate last year I sold a lot of modern proofs at 25% of their cost. However any that were gold were worth a lot, and they underpinned the value of the holdings. Most of these were bought when bullion was half of its current value, some were not, but I didn't care about what was paid for them at time of sale. Based on this experience, IMO it's worth having some bullion around, though not over 2-3% of total savings.
